About the Winemaker
Château de Béru is a family-owned wine domain of around fifteen hectares, located in Burgundy in the heart of the Chablis vineyards. The Béru family has owned the historical estate for over 400 years, with biodynamic viticulture and low-intervention winemaking giving their wines a particular sense of terroir.
In 2005, Athénaïs de Béru vinified her first vintage at the domain, following in the footsteps of her Burgundian predecessors who since the Middle Ages have contributed to place Béru at the pinnacle of the appellation. After the phylloxera crisis uprooted all vines at the beginning of the 20th century, it was her father Comte Éric de Béru who undertook to replant the vineyard in 1987, including the famous Clos Béru. Athénaïs and her mother Laurence now run the domain.
Farming & Cellar: The wines are produced without any additives. The aging is long and carried out in accordance with cycles and seasons. Since 2012, some vintages have been bottled without any added sulfites. The vines are 30+ years old, conducted in guyot double, with significant improvements in organic disease prevention, trellising, and biodynamic practices since 2006. Each plot has found its own balance through biodynamic cultivation.
