Week 2! Below are six wines that seem fit my mood walking around the warehouse today. Hope you enjoy!
- Philokalia - Grapes of Wrath 2021. The story of beauty and resilience behind this wine and vineyard has become one of the few wonders of world. These undisclosed indigenous white grape vines from the west bank have survived settlement and war. The grapes are slightly macerated and aged in miniature black clay vessels, resulting in a textual and mineral white wine.
- Le Nadir - La Dîme d'Artémis: Deliciously nuanced Loire Chenin Blanc with the best balance of acid, earth, and texture. A great bottle to pop open after a long night where you just need to feel something. Preferably paired with Alkaline Trio Private Eye on full volume.
- Kmejita Stekar - Malvazija. We appreciate Radikon and Gravner for bringing well deserved hype for macerated Pinot Gris (Sivi) in the Collio/Brda Italy/Slovenia border, but holy f*ck does this style of macerated Malvasia need its own podium. Big, Tannic, tropical, palatable, serious.
- Lightsome Wines - Aglianico: Two things are true here, Aglianico is delicious, and great winemakers can overcome challenging climates. Every wine Adrienne Ballou has released pushes boundaries as to what we can expect from Texas wines in the future with like-minded producers.
- Martin Texier - Cotes du Rhone Brezeme. This no sulfur added, Rhone Syrah drinks very classic, but without restraint or barriers. Great balance between the blue fruit, Earth, and Sassafras. Enjoy on a cold day with a hearty meal or well-lit fire.
- Domaine Yoyo - KM31. One of my favorite styles of wine. Banyuls is region in southern France with a warm growing season and lots of sunlight. What happens when you co-ferment Grenache Noir, Gris, and Blanc grapes, plus a little bit of Carignan in those conditions is magical.
