About the Winemaker
Wonderwerk is the California natural wine project of Issamu Kamide and Andrew Lardy, two lifelong friends from Virginia who relocated to the Golden State to explore what happens when wine meets culture, creativity, and community.
The label was born after the pair attended 'Despacio,' the roving sound system created by LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy, and asked how they could make a wine that captured that feeling. Lardy studied neuropsychology before moving into enology at Fresno State and working at Central Coast wineries, while Kamide brings experience in brand management and holds WSET 3 certification. The name references South Africa's Wonderwerk Cave, site of one of the earliest known controlled fires—a nod to humans shaping nature for enjoyment.
Farming & Cellar: Based in Gilroy, Wonderwerk sources from vineyards across California—Contra Costa County, Arroyo Seco, Clarksburg, San Benito, and Lodi—favoring growers who farm organically or sustainably. The approach is low-intervention but playful, built on co-ferments, field blends, and piquette-style drinks. Fermentations are spontaneous, aging happens in neutral barrels, and wines see no fining or filtration with only minimal sulfur at bottling.
US Natural Wine ships once a week, every Wednesday. All orders should be placed by Tuesday at noon in order to be picked up from our distributors and out on Wednesday's delivery truck.
