About the Winemaker

L'Absurde Génie des Fleurs is the natural wine project of Romanian-French couple Miha Trifa and Tom Gautier, based in the Languedoc region of France. Starting as a small négociant business in 2016, they began by buying grapes from nearby winemakers to create idiosyncratic cuvées. Their name, 'the absurd genius of flowers,' reflects their belief in the divine power of nature to create overwhelming beauty.

Tom, born in France, and Miha from Romania, are artists at heart who enjoy experimenting with vinification methods—playing with maceration times, ripeness levels, and creative blending. One cuvée idea came to Miha in a dream. Each year brings different inspirations and surprises, reminding us that wine can be such a joyful creative pursuit. They also encourage Romanian winemakers to follow the natural wine path.

Farming & Cellar: They've grown every year, now cultivating 7 hectares of organically farmed Terret, Chardonnay, Cinsault, Carignan, Aramon, Morastel, and Mourvèdre on limestone-clay soils. Making just under 1,000 bottles of each micro-cuvée, everything is done by hand with no inputs in the cellar and no chemicals in the vineyard. Their zero-zero wines are pure expressions of place and moment.
