About the Winemaker
Lelle Ihr Wein!, based in Eschbach in the Pfalz region of Germany, is the personal project of Lena-Maria Julier (affectionately known as 'Lelle'), crafting vibrant, vital, and expressive natural wines distinct from her family's traditional offerings at Weingut Schmitzer-Julier.
Lelle grew up deeply rooted in winemaking, raised in the family winery that has been operating for eight generations. She studied and worked in both South Tyrol and Burgenland (notably with Heinrich winery) before returning home. While her parents specialize in organic yet traditional wines, Lelle is driven to carve her own path. When not tending her vineyards, she works as a traveling master vine pruner for Simonit & Sirch, a company renowned for its expertise training some of the world's most esteemed wine producers. Interestingly, her partner is Nikolas Juretic, a natural winemaker in Friuli whose wines also appear in this collection.
Farming & Cellar: The family started organic and biodynamic cultivation in 2017 and achieved organic certification in 2020. Lelle's philosophy involves gentle pruning and placing as little stress on plants as possible, with later harvests to acquire more complexity. She works only with hand-picked grapes, spontaneous fermentation, extended skin-contact maceration, never filters, and adds zero or very low amounts of sulfur. Her wines—primarily skin-contact Riesling and orange cuvées—possess a distinctiveness that diverges from the region's traditional style while remaining deeply connected to Pfalz terroir.
