About the Winemaker
Absentee Winery is the natural wine project of Avi Deixler, operating from a former dairy barn on the Mendocino Coast since 2016.
Avi discovered winemaking after working in Oregon, Australia, Napa, and Burgundy. Burned out by conventional practices, he found inspiration from natural winemakers like Baptiste Cousin in the Loire. The name 'Absentee' came from a barrel of apple wine that made itself while he was traveling—proving that his absence and trust in the process could create something amazing.
Farming & Cellar: All fruit comes from Poor Ranch in Hopland—a sixth-generation, dry-farmed, organic ranch with 10-40 year old vines. Avi shaves his own barrels, uses whole-cluster fermentation, and seals and rolls barrels for gentle extraction. No sulfites, no cultured yeast, no fining, no filtration.
US Natural Wine ships once a week, every Wednesday. All orders should be placed by Tuesday at noon in order to be picked up from our distributors and out on Wednesday's delivery truck.
Shipping cost is 35 bucks a box (up to 12 bottles) so we highly encourage picking up more than 1 bottle for the best value! Remember, all orders over $200 get FREE SHIPPING!
At $35, shipping cost is on par with most wine ecommerce. Ultimately, we eat the cost of shipping more often than not because wine can be damn heavy. We can't thank you enough for your understanding!
