About the Winemaker
Müller-Grossmann is a family estate in Austria's Kremstal region that has been run by women for over three decades. Originally established by Helma Grossmann-Müller, the estate is now led by her daughter Marlies Hanke, continuing the family tradition of crafting terroir-driven wines.
Helma Grossmann-Müller took over the family vineyards in 1986 and built a reputation for precise, mineral Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. When her daughter Marlies assumed control, she maintained the family's commitment to quality while converting to organic and biodynamic practices. The mother-daughter legacy represents one of Austria's premier woman-led wine estates.
Farming & Cellar: Müller-Grossmann farms biodynamically, working with the lunar calendar for all vineyard activities. Vineyards sit on ancient loess and primary rock soils along the Danube terraces. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, and wines are aged in large neutral oak. The approach emphasizes minimal intervention to showcase Kremstal's distinctive minerality.
