About the Winemaker
Proyecto Nakkal is a minimal intervention wine project from Uruguay, founded in 2020. The name draws inspiration from the Nakkales, ancient priests of the mythical Atlantis who were believed to guard humanity's wisdom while intervening as little as possible—a philosophy the winemakers apply to their craft.
Santi Degásperi and Nico Monforte are lifelong friends who studied oenology together. After gaining experience at renowned wineries in Uruguay and abroad, they launched their shared dream of making natural wines that let the grape be the protagonist. Their vineyards span two southern regions: El Colorado (Canelones) and Paso de la Arena (Montevideo), both within kilometers of the Río de la Plata.
Farming & Cellar: Working with Tannat, Merlot, Marselán, Muscat Ottonel, Trebbiano, and Viognier, Santi and Nico farm sustainably using local materials while avoiding environmental harm. Grapes are hand-harvested into plastic crates. In the cellar, they use no additives: fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts, clarification happens naturally through settling, and they rack wines according to lunar cycles—ancient techniques that remain effective.
US Natural Wine ships once a week, every Wednesday. All orders should be placed by Tuesday at noon in order to be picked up from our distributors and out on Wednesday's delivery truck.
