About the Winemaker
Folicello, an organic farm in Emilia-Romagna since 1980, is run by husband and wife team Marco and Antonella. What began almost as a game in the early 1980s—simply making a healthy, joyous glass of wine for themselves and friends—has evolved into a beloved estate with a new, state-of-the-art cellar where tradition, innovation, and sustainability merge.
Marco and Antonella, having spent most of their lives in the Emilian countryside often veiled in the season's first gentle mists, learned to appreciate its true value. When they started Folicello, working organically was still extremely rare and far more challenging than today. Their daughters Federica and Irene grew up surrounded by vines and musts, and now proudly carry on the family tradition—Federica managing commercial affairs since 2015, and Irene joining production in 2022.
Farming & Cellar: The winery is completely self-sufficient energy-wise with solar-generated electricity. Marc from fermented must is used for vine essences, and biodiversity is actively fostered to maximize beneficial insects. Chickens and farm animals roam free among vineyards. Native Emilia-Romagna varieties—Pignoletto, Montuni, Lambrusco Grasparossa, Sangiovese—are vinified without SO2 at any stage, even bottling. Their wines are a never-ending hymn to the vinnaturist tradition of Emilia-Romagna.
