Bluepit Pais
Bluepit Pais
The 2021 Bluepit from País grapes was bottled later than initially planned, as Pedro Parra found the tannins required a longer élevage. Sourced from a special vineyard with granite soils in Yipas, it was fermented with whole clusters in concrete and aged in neutral 500-liter oak barrels for two winters. The wine presents strong notes of aromatic herbs and exotic spices, with a deeper color and a grittier texture than the Soulpit, evoking a soul vs blues dynamic. Over time, it becomes more austere, with a firmer grip on the palate, developing a youthful character as it breathes. With only 1,200 bottles produced and bottled in February 2023, Bluepit shows exceptional finesse, transcending the País variety, and is expected to age beautifully in the bottle.

About the Winemaker
A terroir driven project dreamt by a man obsessed with terroir, Pedro Parra. Born in Itata, a remote wine region in southern Chile, Pedro has spent his life learning about the soils underneath the greatest wines in the world. A PhD in terroir from the Paris Center of Agriculture provided a springboard into the world of consulting, with clients such as ComandoG, Jean-Marc Roulot, Marco Marengo, Liger Belair, Altos las Hormigas, Chapter 24, and Zuccardi. In 2013, Pedro released his first commercial vintage under his label, Pedro Parra y Familia. The project focuses on the exceptional terroir of Itata’s granite slopes, Pedro’s preferred soil type, aiming to launch Itata into the global pantheon of famous wine terroirs. All vineyards are managed organically and dry-farmed. Recently, Pedro has purchased the vineyards behind Hub and Trane, ensuring his complete control from vine to bottle. Pedro’s winemaking strives to showcase the terroir with ageing achieved using minimal oak, sometimes in conjunction with concrete. Recently, he has moved to close to100% whole cluster and longer macerations (up to 60 days). The project’s annual production hovers around 60,000 bottles across 9 different labels: 2 Village and 7 Cru. According to Pedro, 2021 was the best climatic year since the project’s inception and the first vintage in his new winery. Critics support Pedro’s assertion with Tim Atkin MW, Wine Advocate, and James Suckling crowning the wines with scores of 94 - 97 points .
