Frankenstein grand cru
Frankenstein grand cru
Léo Dirringer has taken the helm at the domaine in tiny Alsatian village Dambach-la-Ville (near Colmar), where his family has been making wine for over four generations. Convicted by organic farming and influenced by such producers as Marie-Thérèse Chappaz and Ganevat, Dirringer’s single-vineyard bottlings like this one from the Grand Cru vineyard called Frankstein really have moved us each time we’ve tasted them over the last few years. This bottling is a combination of the 2021 and 2022 vintage, plus it’s a combination of Riesling and Pinot Gris, which in previous generations would rarely have been done - but the terroir still shines through in these bottlings. We love this new young Alsatian natural wine star.

About the Winemaker
Léo Dirringer is quietly transforming his family’s 14-hectare estate in Dambach-la-Ville, nestled in Alsace’s distinctive granite soils. After honing his skills in Switzerland and falling for natural wine, he joined his parents in 2017 and began crafting wines that are as raw and authentic as the land itself. With a focus on organic farming since 2016 and biodynamic practices, Léo creates pure, additive-free wines that showcase Alsace’s true character. These are delicious, terroir-driven wines that are too good to miss—and priced to share.
