About the Winemaker
Cros des Calades, born in 2023 in Grospierres, Ardèche, is a négociant project by Florence and Benoît Chazallon of Château de la Selve. The winery vinifies organic grapes from five domaines in the southern Rhône Valley, with terroirs stretching from the Drôme to the Gard.
In 2002, Benoît, freshly graduated from the Beaune viticultural school, realized his dream: creating a wine estate in the southern Ardèche where he was certain the terroir had great potential—its scorching sun and cool nights, wild landscapes, limestone soils that smell of garrigue, humus, and truffles. Benoît and Florence practice organic and biodynamic viticulture at their primary estate, Château de la Selve. Cros des Calades extends this philosophy as a natural complement, offering accessible, enjoyable wines while maintaining their commitment to terroir expression.
Farming & Cellar: True to the philosophy guiding Château de la Selve, each cuvée is produced with respect for terroir and a minimalist approach in the cellar. The ambition is to reveal purity and freshness. Working with typical southern Rhône varieties—Syrah, Grenache, Viognier, Cinsault—they produce wines with juicy, digestible profiles bursting with freshness. Indigenous yeasts, precise aging, and minimal intervention give wines silky texture and depth. The range includes red, white, rosé, orange wine, and natural sparkling wines—sincere, vibrant wines to discover and share.
