About the Winemaker

Weingut Günther Steinmetz is a family estate in the Mosel Valley, Germany, run by Stefan Steinmetz since 1999. The winery cultivates 12 hectares of Riesling on the steep slate slopes that make the Mosel one of the world's most challenging and rewarding wine regions.

Stefan Steinmetz represents the current generation of a winemaking family with deep roots in the Mosel. He has modernized the estate while maintaining respect for tradition, producing dry and off-dry Rieslings that balance the Mosel's signature acidity with ripe fruit character. His wines have earned recognition for their purity and sense of place.

Farming & Cellar: Steinmetz farms organically on dramatically steep slopes—some exceeding 60% grade—which must be worked entirely by hand. The blue Devonian slate soils retain heat and impart mineral character. Fermentation occurs spontaneously in traditional Fuder casks with indigenous yeasts. No additives are used, and wines are bottled with minimal sulfur.
