Malvazija is an orange wine produced by Å tekar Winery vinified with local Malvasia grapes with spontaneous fermentation in steel tank, 14 days of maceration on skin, aging 14 months in acacia barrel. No yeast or sulfites added, unfiltered, fermented by natural methods.

About the Winemaker

Kmetija Štekar produces Slovenia's first certified organic wines in the Goriška Brda region, certified since 2006 by KON-CERT institute. This family winery cultivates 5 hectares of vineyards in Brda, Slovenia's premier wine region, in the picturesque village of Snežatno. Their slogan: 'Live Wine Štekar—Nature's and Human's Creation.'

The Štekar family maintains a centuries-old winemaking tradition while embracing natural methods. They're known for their approachable orange wine 'Sivi' made from Pinot Grigio, as well as more complex offerings with tannic structure and soul. Their vineyards grow on steep slopes at 180m elevation with south and southwest exposure—excellent conditions blessed by the Brda microclimate.

Farming & Cellar: Both vineyard and cellar adhere to natural guidelines. Vineyards are grassed over, using the same protective measures as their ancestors—plus modern organic preparations from algae, microorganisms, and carrot extract. Soil fertility is maintained through frequent mulching and grass mowing (converted to nitrogen and compost), never with fertilizers. Fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts; no sulfur added unless necessary. Wines are unfiltered—sediment protects wine from oxidation alongside natural tannins.
