About the Winemaker
Cantina Paltrinieri is a historic Lambrusco producer in Sorbara, Modena, Italy, founded in 1926 by Achille Paltrinieri.
Now in its fourth generation, the estate is helmed by Alberto Paltrinieri and his wife Barbara, who took over in 1998. They cultivate 17 hectares of vineyard in the revered Cristo di Sorbara cru—the narrowest stretch of land between the Secchia and Panaro rivers. Alberto bet on producing mono-varietal Sorbara, now flanked by other local varieties including Salamino and Trebbiano.
Farming & Cellar: The vineyards benefit from the unique alluvial soils of sand and silt deposited by the two rivers. Paltrinieri has moved away from the Charmat method, favoring second fermentation in bottle for more integrated, textural expressions. They utilize indigenous yeasts, conduct minimal dosage, and aim for dryness and precision rather than sweetness.
