New Project by Alex Craighead of Kindeli. "Ojisan"� is an informal, affectionate Japanese term for an uncle or middle-age man. Its a playful back-handed complement Alex and his Japanese winemaking colleagues ( Alex Craighead Wines is a boutique winery in the Upper Moutere region of Nelson, New Zealand, founded by winemaker Alex Craighead. The estate focuses on producing small-batch, site-expressive wines from organically farmed vineyards in one of New Zealand's most distinctive terroirs. Alex Craighead brings extensive winemaking experience to his eponymous label, having worked at prestigious estates before establishing his own project. The Upper Moutere region, known for its unique clay-heavy soils and gentle maritime climate, provides ideal conditions for crafting wines with exceptional character and depth. Farming & Cellar: The vineyards have been farmed organically since 1998, with a focus on building soil health and biodiversity. In the cellar, Alex employs minimal intervention techniques including wild yeast fermentation, extended skin contact for whites, and minimal additions. The wines are typically unfined and unfiltered to preserve their natural expression of place.At a Glance
