About the Winemaker

Azienda Agricola Cirelli is an organic farm in Abruzzo, Italy, founded by Francesco Cirelli in 2003. Right after graduating in Economics from a prestigious European university and training at the Italian Navy College, Francesco decided to dedicate himself to organic agriculture because of the profound values of working the land—'Right after God the farmer comes next,' he was once told.

Francesco and his partner Michela now oversee 23 hectares of land where all production respects natural cycles. His favorite wines are those fermented in amphora—truly artisanal clay vessels requiring manual interaction. 'If you have to clean the vessel, you go inside it with your swimsuit,' he explains. 'It's you and the clay vessel, that is all.' This creates a more emotional process requiring physical effort and connection.

Farming & Cellar: The farm is IMC-certified organic, with production designed around natural cycles of olive trees, vineyards, horticultural crops, and animal breeding. Crop rotation, natural fertilization, and free-range animal grazing fertilize the vines without harmful chemicals. Wines are made from Montepulciano, Trebbiano, and Pecorino grapes, fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. The acclaimed Anfora line—aged 12 months in clay amphorae—showcases their commitment to ancient winemaking methods.
