About the Winemaker
Domaine de l'Alezan, founded in 2013 by Patricia and Rémi Bonneton in the Northern Ardèche, is a 2.5-hectare natural wine estate named after the chestnut coat color of their two Comtois draft mares, Suspens and Palynka, who are essential to working the vineyards.
Patricia and Rémi cultivate steep, non-mechanizable hillside parcels in Tournon-sur-Rhône and Étables, along the Doux Valley—a tributary of the Rhône descending from the Massif Central. All vineyard work is done by hand and on horseback, with no tractors on the property. In 2017, they launched La Tangente, a négociant label sourcing grapes from fellow natural vignerons across France—from the Gard and Beaujolais to Alsace and the Luberon—allowing them to experiment beyond their estate production while supporting like-minded growers.
Farming & Cellar: Patricia and Rémi practice fully natural viticulture with zero compromise. No pesticides, no synthetic treatments, no oenological inputs, no SO?—ever. Vineyards are worked exclusively by hand or with draft horses, using traditional techniques including stone terrace walls and vine training on échalas (wooden stakes). In the cellar: native yeast fermentation, no fining, no filtration, no additives. Wines age in old demi-muids, ancient foudres, and Spanish tinajas.
