About the Winemaker
Alta Marfa is a small winery and vineyard estate in the Davis Mountains of West Texas, founded in 2016 by husband-and-wife team Ricky Taylor and Katie Jablonski, alongside Katie's sister Lauren. Located in the art town of Marfa, they produce 1,000–2,000 cases annually of spontaneously fermented, unfiltered wines.
Ricky brings a background in chemical engineering to winemaking with an intuitive, non-formulaic approach. Katie, a chef, runs the food program at their Marfa tasting room, while Lauren, an artist, creates the playful hand-drawn labels. Their vineyard at Blue Mountain Trail sits at 5,400 feet on volcanic, extremely rocky soils—among the highest vineyard sites in Texas—planted to Portuguese varieties better suited to the extreme conditions.
Farming & Cellar: Alta Marfa sources fruit from a network of like-minded growers across Texas and New Mexico, all farmed with minimal intervention and no herbicides. Their estate vineyards are farmed no-till, no-spray, promoting soil health. All wines are spontaneously fermented with native yeasts, unfiltered, and free of additives except minimal SO? when necessary. Fermentation happens in polyethylene cubes and neutral oak, with aging of 16+ months.
US Natural Wine ships once a week, every Wednesday. All orders should be placed by Tuesday at noon in order to be picked up from our distributors and out on Wednesday's delivery truck.
