About the Winemaker
Papras Bio Wines is operated by the Papras family on the southern slopes of Mount Olympus near Tyrnavos, Greece—pioneers of organic viticulture in the region since certification first became available in 1990.
Stergios Papras, the family's oenologist, served as the local co-op's president and winemaker from 1979, establishing Tyrnavos' reputation for the Black Muscat grape and quality tsipouro production—making it Greece's only town with a PDO appellation for a distilled product. His son and brother now personally tend the vineyards while Stergios continues to advocate for organic practices.
Farming & Cellar: Certified organic since 1990, the 4.5-hectare estate focuses on indigenous varieties—primarily Black Muscat of Tyrnavos and Roditis—from vines planted between 1997 and 2002 on limestone soils at 110m elevation. The unique terroir beneath Greece's tallest mountain provides optimal conditions for fresh, aromatic sparkling and still wines with minimal intervention.
US Natural Wine ships once a week, every Wednesday. All orders should be placed by Tuesday at noon in order to be picked up from our distributors and out on Wednesday's delivery truck.
