About the Winemaker

Tenuta Nardone is a family estate in Campania's Irpinia region, run by Nicola "Pupo" Nardone. The estate has been in the Nardone family since 1908, with Pupo representing the fourth generation to tend these volcanic soils in the hills around Taurasi.

Nicola "Pupo" Nardone inherited not just vineyards but a deep knowledge of traditional Irpinian winemaking from his grandfather and father. He is known for his dedication to indigenous Campanian varieties, particularly Aglianico, Fiano, and Greco. His nickname "Pupo" (meaning baby or doll in Italian) belies his serious commitment to preserving heritage grape varieties.

Farming & Cellar: Tenuta Nardone farms organically on volcanic soils at elevations up to 600 meters. The vineyards benefit from significant diurnal temperature variation, which preserves acidity in the grapes. Fermentation uses indigenous yeasts, and wines are aged in large neutral oak casks. Minimal sulfur is added, and wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
