Austria is one of our favorite places for natural wine. Small growers there work with grapes you won't find on every shelf, like Zweigelt, St. Laurent and Welschriesling, and the wines tend to be fresh, bright and dangerously drinkable.
Right now that means Ziniel from Burgenland. Zini 2024 is the chillable light red, a blend of Zweigelt with some white grapes in the mix. Zini Red 2023 goes a little deeper with Zweigelt and St. Laurent, and Risla 2023 is a crisp Welschriesling white. Ploder Rosenberg's Cara is made from hybrid grapes and drinks easy, and Wabi Sabi's R.I.V.E.R.S.I.D.E.R is a lighter white for the dinner table.
Chill the Zini for 20 minutes, open it with pizza or roast chicken, and watch it disappear. These go fast, so grab a few.
