About the Winemaker
Domaine YoYo, based in Banyuls-sur-Mer in France's Roussillon, began in 2005 when Laurence Manya Krief fell in love with 2 hectares of vines on black schist. The estate has grown to 10 hectares across 12 parcels in the heart of the Banyuls Cru and on the Albères foothills, combining centenarian vines with younger plantings.
Today the domaine is run by Laurence and her daughter Laurie Manya, along with Cameron—their skilled vineyard hand for over 10 years—and his partner Jackie, whose experience as a vigneronne is precious. Their parcels include adolescent Grenaches, young sprightly Mourvèdre, and centenarian Grenache and Carignan anchored in black schist. In 2021, they acquired their dream parcel: 2 hectares facing the Bay of Paulilles with the Mediterranean as landscape.
Farming & Cellar: Certified organic since 2008 (practicing since 2005), the vineyards are non-mechanizable due to extreme slopes. Work is done by traction animale, rototiller, and Catalan hoe (xadic). Harvests are carried out by hand in small 13kg crates to preserve intact bunches. Yields vary from 10-20 hl/ha. Organic amendments, green manure (since 2020), and phytotherapy (plant extracts) protect the vines without chemicals.
US Natural Wine ships once a week, every Wednesday. All orders should be placed by Tuesday at noon in order to be picked up from our distributors and out on Wednesday's delivery truck.
