About the Winemaker
Domaine Brand & Fils is a family estate in Ergersheim, Alsace, representing three generations of natural winemaking. Founded by Lucien Brand in 1956, the domaine is now run by Philippe Brand, who has transformed the estate into one of Alsace's leading biodynamic producers.
Philippe Brand joined his father Charles in 2006, creating the "Brand & Fils" partnership. Charles had already converted the estate to organic farming in 2001, but Philippe pushed further, achieving Demeter biodynamic certification in 2015. The family's evolution from conventional to biodynamic represents Alsace's broader shift toward natural viticulture.
Farming & Cellar: Brand & Fils is certified Demeter and Ecocert, farming 12 hectares of argilo-calcareous soils in La Couronne d'Or, near Strasbourg. They use only minimal bouillie bordelaise and sulfur (3 kg/ha/year), with nettle and horsetail preparations. Harvest is entirely manual, fermentation spontaneous with indigenous yeasts. Wines are bottled without filtration or additives—pure expressions of Alsatian terroir.
US Natural Wine ships once a week, every Wednesday. All orders should be placed by Tuesday at noon in order to be picked up from our distributors and out on Wednesday's delivery truck.
