Skin-fermented Pinot Gris made in the style of Friulian Ramato. While technically a rosé (made from grapes with at least some red pigment), the extraction and length of maceration is more similar to an orange wine. The wine derives a soft chalky tannic structure and copper-salmon hue from 2 weeks of skin contact with the melange of grey and pink colored berries. The skin contact lends layers of complexity not found in the direct-pressed Pinot Grigio style - this wine is perfumed with stone, gravel, and orchard blossoms while the palate offers pink lemon, rooibos tea, and red currant. This wine was a hit recorded in one take: it was Love at First Sight.
About the Winemaker
Wonderwerk (House of Fermentation) is Issamu Kamide and Andrew Lardy, two high school friends from Virginia seeking new directions in fermentation. They live in Echo Park, LA and make supernatural wines from all over California. They produce and bottle with their own hands and feet. They ride the wavelength from low-intervention to high-innovation, making collaborative ideas come to life in funky new ways. Wonderwerk began as a long night on a disco dancefloor wound down and we didn’t want the party to end. Now, it’s flowed from there into the wines you see and drink today.
